LEAVES

These frosted glass leaves have always caught my eye for the way
they reflect the
light. The delicacy, color and
combinations with other stones are very special.
Makers who used these include Schiaparelli, Hattie Carnegie, Hobe, Schreiner and
also some unsigned pieces. So far, I haven’t seen these used in bracelets, but who knows what may turn up in the
future.
Colors: yellow, green, peach, golden, blue, black, tan and clear.
Each molded and veined glass leaf is held in a metal solid
backed gold tone setting and attached to a "branch". Some have a
tiny rhinestone drop at the end of each leaf and some do not.
Some twigs can be bent just a bit in order to curve around the
center stone in different ways.

SCHREINER
brooch
with a center orange glass cabochon surrounded by molded frosted glass
leaves and in a gold plated setting with pendant hook on back, 3-1/4".
I have seen this same brooch signed by Schreiner, signed by Carnegie, and not
signed at all.

SCHREINER
brooch and earrings made of frosted glass leaves in blue and white in a gold
tone setting, made in the 1960s. The brooch is 2-5/8" by 2-1/3" and the clip
back earrings 7/8". They are accented with small glass pearls and shimmer in
the light. I have now seen this same set signed "Schreiner NY" but this set
is not signed. The Carole Tanenbaum and Eve Townsend book "Schreiner- Master
of 20th Century Costume Jewelry" shows this on page 52. The designer Hattie
Carnegie was also fond of these leaves and used them in her jewelry, and I
have also seen them in similar unsigned pieces, too. This is a really lovely
set in excellent condition.

SCHREINER
brooch of lustrous peach colored pressed glass leaves and an
oval orange glass cabochon center in a gold plated setting with a pendant
hook on back so it can be worn on a chain as a pendant necklace, too.
It is 3-1/8" by 2-1/2", a nice showy size. while this particular brooch is
not signed, I have a photo of this same brooch that is signed by Schreiner,
just to confirm that this is the maker. With the leaves overlapping the center in a such lovely three-dimensional way,
like a small creature peeking between the leaves! NOTE:
A
similar brooch
can be seen on page
52 of

the wonderful book, "Schreiner: Masters of the Twentieth Century Costume Jewelry"
by Carole Tanenbaum and Eve Townsend.

HATTIE CARNEGIE brooch with luminescent pressed golden glass leaves
that surround a center of black glass bugle beads, all in a gold plated setting, 2-1/3" by 2".
This has the "Hattie Carnegie" signature on the back. Similar molded glass leaves were also used by Hobe and Schreiner during this
time period of the 1960s, as well as in pieces with no signature. I have a real fondness for their
glowing beauty.

more than one jewelry company including names like Schreiner, Hobe and Hattie
Carnegie, as well as in unsigned pieces. To see some of the others, click

seen there. These are brilliant, work perfectly and are in excellent

Hattie Carnegie made different versions of this brooch, as
you can see here.

And even the backs are not quite the same.

HOBE green cabochon brooch with
wonderful pressed glass leaves and clear rhinestones set in gold tone,
1-3/4". I have also seen these lovely leaves used on both Schreiner
and Carnegie jewelry. View

PINK
molded pink satin glass leaves brooch set in gold tone and
accented with gray rhinestones, 2-3/4" by 1-1/2". The leaves have a
shimmering look and are really lovely, some of my favorites. I have seen
them used in signed designer pieces, such as Hattie Carnegie, and in
unsigned jewelry like this as well.
