LEO GLASS brooch with unfoiled aqua rhinestones and imitation seed pearls set in matte gold tone, circa 1930, 4-3/4". According to Brunialti's "American Costume Jewelry: Volume I" on page 197, Leo Glass made jewelry from about September, 1928-1957 at  377 Fifth Ave, New York, NY GLASS with both a manufacturer and an importer of jewelry. Because I have had a signed brooch with the trombone catch, I think they imported from Europe circa 1940. After 1940 their pieces changed with their market being the less affluent buyer, so there earlier pieces are usually better made, more substantial and for me, more desirable.   View   View   View   View   #X36337 LEO GLASS blue enamel on gold tone hinged bangle bracelet, 7" wearable size, 1-1/2" wide at the front and 1/2" wide at the back, with a safety chain attached, circa 1930s. LEO GLASS glass flowers and leaves necklace and bracelet with the button style closure. This set is like both Haskell and French ones I have had. Red fabric-woven mesh holds wired-on glass flowers and leaves and a loop and glass button forms the closure on both necklace and earrings. The necklace is a wearable length of 16-1/2" and the bracelet is 8". It is interesting that I have seen necklaces in this style, with the button closure, marked "France", "Leo Glass" and as unsigned Hess Haskell. Whoever made them, I find them charming and fun to wear since they are usually light weight and easy to fasten.    View   View   View   #X37997 LERU gold tone leaves, chains and glass seed beads necklace, 15-1/2" to 16-3/4".   View   View   View   View   #X32149 LISNER gold tone crescent moon brooch with green and blue cabochons and chain dangles, 6".   View   View   #X63045

OLGA TRITT unsigned snake and apple parure probably inspired by Adam and Eve. Be sure  to see how the the backs of these pieces are made and the great detail, 14-1/4" necklace with 3-1/4" front drop, bracelet 7" by 7/8", screw back earrings 7/8". The patent, shown below, is what identified the maker. There is slight wear on the finish in some places.
According to the "Palm Beach Daily News" in an article dated March 10, 1934, she had her own shop at 345 Worth Avenue "across from the Everglades Club". That article describes her crystal, diamond, precious stones and elephant hair jewelry for women and cufflinks for men. An ad in the same paper 12 days later promotes her "jewels of Individuality" and also states "great reductions on all my rare gems". A 1929 photo shows Jeanette MacDonald wearing Tritt jewelry: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2101975040/nm0531776.  A patent #161185 (118255) for Coro indicates in the references that she was making jewelry in 1949, and I have seen ads for her jewelry as late as 1971 (I think Olga's daughter Alva Davidson ran the shop after Olga passed away), stating her shop address as 18 East 57th, then 569 Madison Avenue, and later 424 Park Avenue, New York City. So far, all the other jewelry she made seems to have been fine jewelry, not costume as this set is. She died in March 1968 in New York City at age 81.  View   View   View   #Y36286

VIGNERI Lucite golden layers c-cuff bracelet, 6-5/8" around the inside, 2" wide with a 1-1/3" opening. According to Anne Vigneri, "this was probably made in the late 80's .We produced Plexiglas "art to wear" from 1982 to 1994. We made very few of this particular design due to the difficulty in it's production. It was made from a solid piece of Lucite (Plexiglas) that was cut and painted in a flat "bar" shape, then heated until it became malleable. It was then formed by hand to fit the wrist... very labor intensive. At the time it was made it would have retailed for about $140.00. The "Vigneri" line was sold in upscale stores like Neiman-Marcus, Saks Fifth Ave, etc., and was featured in the editorial pages of Vogue and Bazaar".  View   View   View   View   #X61480

WHBM large scale contemporary artificial pearls necklace with detachable clear rhinestone bow, 21" to 23" necklace at the longest length with a 2-7/8" bow pin. PLEASE NOTE: Regretfully, it is no longer possible to respond to individual questions regarding jewelry history, identification or value, or to offer written or verbal appraisals or opinions. The demand for this kind of information is absolutely too overwhelming for one dealer to fill.
I love jewelry, but appraising and selling are two entirely different businesses, and I choose selling and research as my business.

Instead, articles are added on a regular basis to JEWEL CHAT on line Magazine, a wonderful reference for  information on many makers and styles of vintage jewelry.
